Sprinkler Saves Alaskan Shopping Center

8-27-2007
On Monday morning, Capital City Fire/Rescue crews responded to the Airport Shopping Center in Juneau.  First-arriving crews reported grey & white smoke issuing from approximately 50% of the structure.

Upon entering the building, firefighters found one active sprinkler head that had contained the fire to a small area.  Without a sprinkler system present, the fire would have likely traveled from store to store, resulting in extreme damage.  As a result of having the system, several of the businesses in this building were able to open hours later.
